The kick-off meeting for the GDA AID Clean Energy activity is taking place on 13 December 2022, with the participation of both the ESA GDA team and members from the consortium.
Renewable energies represent an area of significant potential growth in developing countries. Indeed, many International Financial Institutions (IFIs) client states have already started strengthening their transmission and distribution systems, implementing new energy efficiency measures and smart grid technologies, and transitioning to renewable energy power generation at a larger scale.
Therefore, clean energy was identified as a new thematic area compared to these addressed within EO4SD, a precursor activity to GDA. This activity covers aspects related to the use of EO for a wide range of energy related topics such as resource assessment, energy demand, production, storage and transmission, electrification, infrastructure planning, construction, operation, and infrastructure vulnerability assessment.
This activity is implemented by a consortium led by the German company IABG, and also includes other partners from Germany, Spain, and Portugal (TFE Energy, RSS Remote Sensing Solutions, GMV Portugal, Trama TecnoAmbiental and Geo-Net).
